Information
On May 11, 2010, Citizenship and Immigration Services
(USCIS) began issuing a new Employment
Authorization Document (EAD), also known as
Form I-766.
USCIS has also begun issuing a redesigned Permanent
Resident Card to all individuals applying for
new, renewal or replacement cards.
New "Green Card" or Employment Authorization Document (EAD):
- will actually be colored green
- will cost $370 to renew or get your Permanent
Resident Card (as of August 2010) - Permanent Resident Cards will be replaced with the new (green) version when your Card expires.
- If you have an older Green Card WITHOUT an expiration
date, apply for a replacement card.
For Employers:
- Green Cards and EADS are just two kinds of documents that
can establish work authorization. - An Employer must never demand to see a
lawful permanent resident's Green Card or an EAD. - Every legally authorized worker has the right to
choose which documents to present during the employment
eligibility verification (Form I-9) process,
regardless of citizenship or immigration status.
